Fairfield is formally incorporated as a city.
1942:
The United States Air Force decides to build a major base installation on a tract of land located to the east of Fairfield, giving a tremendous boost to the local economy. Travis Air Force Base became one of the major departure points for military units heading for combat in Vietnam. The base was annexed to Fairfield on March 30, 1966.
2001:
The City’s location, natural amenities, and abundant land sites are some of the attributes that make Fairfield a great place to live. The population of Fairfield has increased from 3,100 people in 1950 to its present population of 96,178. The City and surrounding areas are expected to continue to flourish as one of the most desirable urban growth centers in the Bay Area.
2003:
Fairfield celebrates its 100th anniversary as a City in Solano County. Its population is 100, 200.
